Hands On USF was created in the fall of 2010 and is available to the University of South Florida and our community partners. We are fortunate to be able to provide top-notch Interpreting services while educating tomorrow's Interpreting professionals. We pair Interpreting Interns with professional, experienced, nationally certified Sign Language Interpreters to fulfill any interpreting request.

Andrea Smith has been a working practitioner since 1995 in the greater Tampa Bay area. She completed her interpreter training at both Hillsborough Community College and St. Petersburg College in 1995. Upon completion, she received her Florida state Quality Assurance level 2 and soon in 1999, received her national certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. She continued her professional development, focusing on interpreting within the legal setting. Andrea received her Specialist Certificate: Legal in 2008. She continued her formal education at the University of South Florida, eventually receiving her Bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Social Sciences in 2003 and her Master's degree in Adult Education in 2009. Andrea is currently working towards her PhD in Adult and Higher Education.

Michon, an alumna of the University of South Florida's Interpreter Training Program, is a proud Florida native. Nationally Certified in 2012, Michon has interpreted in a variety of settings including Educational, Mental Health, Religious, and Video Relay, to name a few. She serves the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf as the 2015-2017 Vice Chair for the Interpreters and Translators of Color (ITOC) Member Section. Michon is continuing her professional development and is pursuing her soon-to-be completed, Master's degree in ASL/English Interpreting, with a concentration in Interpreter Pedagogy, from the University of North Florida.
